And the award for best chat-up line goes to...

Award season is in full swing right now, with the film world’s best and brightest (and let’s not forget Angelina’s leg), picking up shiny statuettes for their winning performances.

So here at Badoo, we thought it only fitting that we hold our own awards: for best chat-up line inspired by a famous movie!

Let’s face it, we’ve all been tongue-tied when meeting someone new for the first time. And Badoo makes it easy to start chatting with our Ice Breaker features. So, just for fun, we replaced some of our standard Ice Breakers on Badoo with famous movie pick-up lines, and tested them out with some of our female users. We wanted to see which were most successful when starting an online conversation.

The winning line chosen by women? That goes to a lively quote from Audrey Hepburn to Cary Grant 50 years ago in the 1963 romantic thriller, “Charade”: “I don’t bite you know… unless it’s called for.”

But did men respond to Audrey’s charm? It seems that they preferred it when women used an even older line – first delivered in a Southern drawl by Bette Davis in the 1932 movie, “The Cabin in the Cotton”: “I’d love to kiss you, but I just washed my hair.”

Yes, it seems that while younger actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway may be nominated at the Oscars® this coming Sunday, it seems they can’t hold a candle to the classic stars of yesteryear when it comes to getting a man’s attention...
